DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter
What is it ?
This filter is located in the exhaust system of most modern diesel vehicles ,both on and off road
The purpose of the DPF is to catch the soot particles in the exhaust stream before they escape into the atmosphere, this has done wonders to clean up the dirty diesel reputation they once used to have
This is done by having a honeycomb filter fitted in the exhaust system , usually as close to the engine as possible
The filter traps the particles in its honeycomb structure and the particles are burnt off once the temperature of the DPF gets to approx 600C
